"THE FABRIC MADE ME DO IT! Beyond Traditional: Art Quilting"    Confident Beginner to Advanced

List of Supplies:
Basic student kit - $30 will be provided in class. (Includes 12 – 1/8 cuts of assorted hand-woven, striped Guatemalan textiles to be used as the basis of your project. Pre-washed and ready to sew!) You need to supply additional coordinating fabrics; see below.
Basic sewing & sewing machine supplies
  Sewing machine with ¼” foot
  Measuring tape
  Fabric scissors
Rotary cutter, mat & ruler (at least 12” long)
  Masking tape
Notebook & colored pencils (to sketch and take notes)
2 yds. FLANNEL or Pellon fleece for a design wall (at least 72” long) – this is crucial!
For inspiration: bring photographs, magazine clippings or drawings of subjects and compositions that appeal to you. They can have elements of nature or manmade forms, whatever strikes your fancy!
Fabric variety is crucial. Bring 20 – 25 assorted out-of-the-ordinary fabrics. Suggestions: batiks, African, Australian fabric, interesting hand-dyed patterns. Quarter yards will do, some ½ yds. It’s important that you bring as much variety in pattern, scale and color as possible. Search beyond traditional Quilt shops.
¼ yards of 8 – 10 assorted solids or fabrics that read as solids (tone-on-tone, textured, hand-dyed) to combine and coordinate with the patterned fabrics above.
  Iron & ironing board
Heavy duty, multi-plug extension cord & table top lamp

For multiple-day classes also bring:
Scraps of embroideries or woven cloth, appliqués, any interesting fabric that attracts you!
To appliqué by machine: coordinating rayon embroidery thread to satin stitch, and/or mono-filament thread to      blind stitch
Double sided fusible material, like Steam-A-Seam 2

Optional:
Freezer paper & paper scissors (for templates)
   Permanent fine marker (for templates)
I will bring extra assorted Guatemalan fabric that students can purchase if they so desire. Washing & care      instructions will be provided

Note to Workshop Organizers: * All students in my classes need a "design board" to work on. They will bring 2 yds. of flannel or fleece to cover it with, so they can use it in lieu of a design wall. These boards should measure approx. 30" x 72". (If boards cannot be available, then each student needs at least 30x72" of individual wall space. They can tape the flannel to the wall instead). This is crucial!
* I will need a slide projector for this workshop, and a CD player. Thank you!
